Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was employed as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS affiliate WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). In Washington she was made general correspondent by NBC News two year later. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent by 1988. She was made chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell hosted and was a panelist at the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist during the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering in the White House in 1981-1988, in both the Reagan presidency. She covered many notable stories such as arm control, the budget tax and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended numerous summits in the company of the President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
